The components of the course
Vocal technique & performance
The vocal technique syllabus will be arranged according to the participants' needs and wishes. In this way the technical aspect of the education is personalized for every individual in the group.
During the performance portion, the singer will have the opportunity to work with personal expression, in relation to his/ her repertoire.
Work on how to make best use of the possibilities on stage and in the studio will be done in a variety of ways. This in order to make sure that the singer appears sincere and artistically credible.
Masterclass / Singing with Pianist
Singing with Pianist (SWP) consists of individual sessions in the presence of the class, in which participants sing material of their choice accompanied by a pianist, and under guidance of an instructor. Although everyone sings individually, the masterclass (singing with pianist) functions as a group lesson. The philosophy behind this is that, as a spectator, one can learn a lot from observing the other singers work with difficult parts. The idea is to address vocal weaknesses rather than strengths. In this way the singer learns to confront vocal problems and solve them, in order to eliminate the problems from their singing altogether.
Songwriting
Singers will during the course have the opportunity to work in depth with creating and developing own original song material. Singers will develop and perform own material with the possibility of feed back from teacher and the rest of the group.
Building a repertoire
Every professional live singer must have at least a one hour of concert repertoire. The course will challenge the singer's desires within genres and take part in the singer's building of such a repertoire. If the participant is a songwriter and has unfinished songs to bring to the course, this will also be a forum in which to work and develop further in songwriting.
Ambitions, time planning, and music business
We will go through music business related subjects and exchanging of experiences and we will attempt to make concrete and keep the individual singer’s ambitions and goals on track by organizing tangible plans for what the singers would like to focus on over any given period of time. There will be help at hand to make a time and action plan for what the singers can do to reach their goals.
Concerts
During the course singers will continuously work on theirperformance at both piano and band concerts. The aim is to develop and focus on the singer's stage performance, technically and interpretationwise. Each concert will be evaluated with feedback from a CVI teacher as well as the entire group.
